West Goshen, West Chester #11 top place to live in all US by Money Magazine Comments Off

CNN/Money Magazine just rated a local town as THE #11th place to live in all the US. How cool is that? I don’t know what criteria they used, but pretty neat.

Here is what they said about West Goshen:

Top 100 rank: 11
Population: 8,800
Compare West Goshen to Top 10 Best Places

This family-friendly community has a quiet suburban feel, with no shortage of nearby shopping centers and local business, while Philadelphia is less than an hour away.

Among the four area parks around the area, West Goshen Community Park has its own amphitheatre with concerts and outdoor theater. Summer activities include a fitness boot camp for women, fieldtrips for teens and a Fourth of July bicycle parade. –R.G.

Searching for a movie. . . Comments Off

This article is about really neat idea, that if you live in the West Chester/Chester County area, you might think of doing. The idea is that you find clues and do a game of hide & and seek to find out where the outdoor movie will be. Sounds weird, I know, but for something fun to do in Chester County. . . Check out the article.

Searching for a movie, and he means ‘searching’

By Kathy Boccella

Inquirer Staff Writer

John Young never went to a drive-in as a kid but now he runs something called “guerilla drive-in,” a roving outdoor movie night for people he dubs “adventure nerds.”

“This is a group of people for whom a good time is maybe going out and getting rained on,” said Young, 38, a Web developer from West Chester.

Exhibiting his own nerdy zeal for quests and puzzles, Young makes the audience go through an elaborate game of hide-and-seek before they get to the payoff, watching a family-friendly flick under a blanket of stars at an off-the-beaten-path spot in Chester County. The movie is pay what you want. Rain and bugs are free.

West Chester to consider a blight fight in court Comments Off

West Chester, PA 19380

West Chester Borough is investigating a new state law that allows judges to wrest control of blighted properties from chronically negligent property owners. The Abandoned and Blighted Property Conservatorship Act enacted last year allows a “party of interest” to petition the court to put control of a blighted property into the hands of an entity capable of fixing it. After a property is fixed, the court can order that it be sold. Revenues from the sale would go toward reimbursing court fees and repair costs. Once these and related costs are covered, the rest of the money would go to the property owner. Borough officials say they are unsure whether other Pennsylvania municipalities have tried this approach to combating blight. West Chester Zoning Chief Mike Perrone said he has identified five properties in the borough that he believes would qualify for court-appointed conservatorship.
