Caln Shires Estates residents vent about roads
More than 60 residents attended the West Caln Township Supervisors Meeting, and most raised issues about the Caln Shires Estates development. The development is off North Sandy Hills Road and some of its first residents moved in about six years ago. But roads in the development have yet to be paved and are not dedicated to the township. Residents said many of their neighbors were snowed in for four days last winter because the builder did not plow them out. Residents said phase one of the project is complete and the roads should be paved and dedicated. In their unpaved state, the roads are causing damage to passing vehicles, according to residents. Township Solicitor Gary Moskovitz said the developer, Americorp Homes, must convert a basin on the property before the roads can be paved and the township can assume responsibility for them.

Coatesville prepares budget to add 4 positions
Coatesville City Council took the first step toward approving changes in the 2010 budget that include adding four new staff positions. Council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance to amend the budget. Following a second reading, the amended budget will be officially approved. The four positions include an animal control officer, a parking enforcement officer, a codes inspector and a public works laborer. Last month Interim City Manager Ted Reed advised council that necessary expenditures had come to light that had not been properly included in the 2010 budget. In all, the expenditures came to $734,617 and include $101,768 to pay for the four new positions for six months. The total amended budget for 2010 is approximately $10.7 million. Last year’s budget was $9.9 million. The original 2010 budget called for laying off four full-time positions but that action was not taken. Reed said he expects about $500,000 will left by the end of the year that could go back into the reserve trust fund. Click here to view the amended budget.
